Encaustic Art Institute of New Mexico Opens

Painter Harriette Tsosie is offering two-day encaustic (pigmented wax) painting workshops at her South Valley Studio in Albuquerque.  

Tsosie is founder of New Mexico Wax, a statewide organization for encaustic artitsts, and has been painting in encaustic for six years.

Upcoming workshops are: Saturday, September 26th - Sunday, Setember 27th; Saturday, October 24th - Sunday October 25th; and Saturday, November 21 - Sunday, 22.  Workshops run from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.   

Workshop topics include: safety issues, encaustic basics such as preparing the wax, pigmenting, painting and finishing and advanced techniques such as embedding and transfers.  

Cost for a two-day session is $350 plus a $25 materials fee.  Classes are limited to six artists.  Special rates are available for alumni of prior workshops.  To register, e-mail Harriette at: hftsosie@earthlink.net or call her at: 575/779-7941.  The $25 non-refundable materials fee is due upon registration.  On receipt of the materials fee, workshop participants will be sent directions to South Valley Studio.  

Thermal Dynamics showcases New Mexico encaustic artists

"Thermal Dynamics," an exhibition showcasing the work of New Mexico encaustic artists opens Friday, July 3 at Albuquerque's Arts Alliance Gallery.  The exhibition continues through July 27th.  The Arts Alliance Gallery is located in the Courtyard Shopping Center, 1100 San Mateo NE, Suite #10 and will be open daily from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM for the duration of the exhibition.  A reception and book signing are scheduled for Friday, July 10th, from 5 PM - 8 PM.  Artists will be on hand to sign copies of "New Mexico Wax,"  just published catalog of the work of the state's encaustic artists.  The catalog retails for $25.

New Mexico Wax publishes catalog

Hot off the press is New Mexico Wax's first catalog of members' work. The catalog features full color photographs of the work of 34 New Mexico encaustic artists. "New Mexico Wax" also includes a history of how the organization was founded, a membership application, an essay describing what encaustic painting is, and brief statements by each artist about their work. The catalog will be on sale for $18 (our cost, including shipping) at the group's next exhibition, "Thermal Dynamics," opening July 3 at Albuquerque's Arts Alliance Gallery, Courtyard Shopping Center, 1100 San Mateo NE, Suite #10. The exhibition continues through July 27. Gallery hours are 10 AM - 5 PM daily (except Sundays) for the duration of the exhibit. A reception and book signing are scheduled for Friday, July 10th from 5 PM to 8 PM. Artists will be on hand at that time to sign copies of the "New Mexico Wax" catalog.

Tsosie shows at Millicent Rogers

Harriette Tsosie's work "Aspens in Winter," is part of a miniatures show at the Millicent Rogers Museum,1504 Millicent Rogers Museum Road, Taos, New Mexico.The exhibition opens Saturday, February 21 and continues through March 31.
